Jizo Obon Festival

August 22 (Sun) 11:00 am ~

Due to construction work at “Cho-ie,” this year’s Jizo Obon Festival was held at Mr. Kishimoto’s shop next door. Officers completed the decorative Jizo altar with a youthful nimbleness of hand. Thanks to a sturdy wooden frame assembled by Kyomachiya Architects member Mr. Oshita, the Jizo statue was securely positioned for display.

Five children and nearly 30 adults participated in the Buddhist “hoyo” service repeatedly rubbing their Buddhist rosary beads and bowing to Jizo. Following the service, children received snack coupons and adults reassembled at Higashiyama restaurant “Ryozen” for a friendly dinner gathering before returning to take down the Jizo Obon decorations.
